This year we have brought Tenkara style fly fishing to our shop. Tenkara is a simple telescoping rod, line and fly. There is NO REEL! Originally from japan, tenkara means “From the Heavens”. One only needs to know two knots, if you can tie your shoes you are half way there. The rods are usually very long, around 12 feet. We have a couple options for sale. The Sawtooth is our best seller at 3.2 ounces it is a 12 foot rod that telescopes down to just 20 inches. It has a playful 5-5 action, this is the lightest action the tenkara rods come in but is still capable of landing some nice sized fish. For kids wanting to learn to fly fish Tenkara is an affordable and easy way to learn, we recommend the 8 foot cascade rod with the same 5-5 action. This rod weighs in at 2.1 ounces and telescopes to just 18 inches. Some are skeptical of this old style, if you are one of these people come take a guided trip and you will fall in love with its simplicity.
