We check the river flows every morning down here in Gardiner, MT. If you enjoy fishing, then you should get into this habit, as well (NSGS website). The river flows give anglers crucial information about how the rivers will fish. Yesterday, I looked at the Gardner River flows on my “Fish Head” app, and she was flowing at 436 cubic feet per second (cfs). This is a perfect early season flow. So, we set out to do some “scouting” (when you’re a guide, going fishing totally falls under the “professional development” category). The Chubby Rubby combo was hot on the Gardner yesterday, This is a highly technical rig that consists of two flies. the top fly is the Chubby Chernobyl (we have tons at the shop in all the good colors) and a Rubber Legs/Stonefly dropper. Drop the stone about 18 inches off the Chubby and fish to your heart’s content. Remember… always carry Bear Spray!
