The Flying Pig Fly Shop employs some of the most passionate fly-fishing guides in Western Montana. We eat, sleep, and dream about fishing the greater Yellowstone area, basically all of the time.  We, also, really love teaching fellow anglers (or anglers-to-be) the techniques and methods of fly-fishing. Gardiner, Montana is a truly amazing place for us to call home, because there are hundreds of rivers and lakes just out our front door. If you are fishing the Gardiner area, in early morning or late evening, then your chances of running into at least one of us on the river is pretty darn good. All of our guides are licensed to guide in the state of Montana and Yellowstone National Park. Well… without further adieu, here are your Flying Pig Fishing Guides:

1558557_10202070711106338_5320198265063538204_nSteve Bierle – Steve is the owner of the Flying Pig Adventure Company and our part-time fishing guide. Steve originally hails from South Dakota but now lives here in Gardiner with his lovely wife (and company co-owner) Sandy, and their three kids Drew, Ben, and Shane. As the owner, Steve guides mainly during the shoulder seasons, or when we are heavily booked. Steve and Sandy moved their family out to Gardiner largely because of the vast fishing opportunities. Steve is a true “gamer” on the water and will do anything to get his clients (or his own children) hooked up on fish. He loves exploring small creeks and fishing pocket water with big dry flies.

IMG_1353Brogan Ballard– Brogan has guided in the greater Yellowstone area for five seasons, and expects to do so for many more years. He is a Rocky Mountain Native from Denver, Colorado, and initially rambled his way up to Montana to attend The University of Montana, in Missoula, where he studied Psychology and English Literature. He is a member of the 2007 Montana Grizzlies National Championship lacrosse team. Now, Brogan is finishing up his Masters of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction at UM, so he can teach middle and high school English… and guide in the summers and shoulder seasons. Brogan enjoys sharing the Yellowstone experience with anglers of all ages and skill levels. When fishing on his own, Brogan normally throws big, heavy streamers- waiting for the big one. Brogan’s MT guide number is 15167.

1239483_10152114463835963_8719037919033671299_nTyler Stephens– Tyler was born and raised in the great state of Michigan, where he has fished and played hockey from the time he could walk.. He lives in Livingston, MT where he guides fly-fisherman and hunters, in the fall. Tyler earned his degree in English Teaching and Physical Education from Grand Valley State University. Tyler has guided for the pig for six years, and does not plan on leaving Montana any time soon. He adores dry flies, streamers, and nymphs… whatever the fish are keyed into. Tyler’s MT guide number is 18203.

IMG_1386Lady Ballard– Lady has been with The Flying Pig for just over a year (she turned 1 on May 28). Lady loves the Frisbee almost as much as she likes fishing. She prefers walk-wade trips outside of the Park (no dogs allowed off the roads in the Park).  You will likely see Lady hanging around the Fly Shop and Rafting Store. Her favorite fly pattern is a Mouse pattern. Lady is a guide in training and is not licensed (yet) to guide in  the State of Montana or Yellowstone National Park.
