Yellowstone Whitewater Rafting: What to Wear

Planning an exciting Yellowstone whitewater rafting adventure? Whether you’re doing a half-day float or an epic overnight rafting experience, wearing the right clothing is crucial for a comfortable and safe journey down the Yellowstone River.

Flying Pig provides full-length wet suits, neoprene jackets, splash tops, and neoprene booties. Our local weather and water temperatures will dictate the amount of gear you’ll need on your rafting trip. 

Wear the Following on Your Whitewater Rafting Trip

• Quick-dry pants or swim bottoms.
• Quick-dry shirt or swim top. Avoid cotton—when it’s wet, it holds moisture and keeps you cold.
• Water shoes, sandals with a heel strap (flip-flops will fall off), or tennis shoes you don’t mind getting wet. Don’t have water shoes? We have neoprene water booties for you.
• Sun protection: Sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses.

Optional Items to Bring on the Raft

• Water bottle, preferably with a carabiner to attach to the raft.
• Phone or small camera in a watertight box or pouch.

What to Wear on Cooler Rafting Days

• Several warm layers made from synthetic fabric, fleece, or wool. Athletic leggings, long underwear, and trim athletic tops work well under neoprene.
• Wind-proof jacket.
• Socks: Synthetic or wool to wear with water shoes.
• Hat and finger gloves: Synthetic or wool.
